Georgetown and Kaieteur Falls in 4 days
A short Guyana itinerary built around a weekend: a scheduled flight to Kaieteur Falls with a backup day, Georgetown’s architecture and seawall, and departure on day 4.
Kaieteur Falls from one of the lookouts on the plateau trail
In short
Four days fits Georgetown and a flight to Kaieteur Falls when your stay includes a weekend: Kaieteur on Saturday, Sunday as the backup or city day, and your flight home on day 4. It suits stopovers and first tastes of Guyana.
The route, stage by stage
Illustrative itinerary, not a fixed package. Flight days and times, transfer times, lodge availability and prices are subject to confirmation for your dates. Your written proposal sets them out before you commit.
- Day 1 (Friday)
Georgetown
Arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Georgetown, about an hour by road.
- Day 2 (Saturday)
Kaieteur Falls
Scheduled Kaieteur tour from Ogle airport: late-morning check-in, about two hours at the falls with a park guide, back in Georgetown around 17:00.
- Day 3 (Sunday)
Georgetown
Guided city day: St George’s Cathedral, the Botanical Gardens and its manatees, and the seawall in the evening. If Saturday’s flight did not operate, this is the backup day for the Sunday tour, with a shorter look at the city in the morning.
- Day 4 (Monday)
Departure
Transfer to the airport. A free morning is possible if your flight leaves later in the day, but nothing on this day is planned as essential.
- Flying home
International departure
Day 4 is your departure day. Kaieteur is never planned for it: the tour returns to Ogle around 17:00, too late to rely on for an international connection.
Needs booking well ahead
- Kaieteur scheduled tour seats for Saturday (and Sunday as backup)
- Georgetown hotel
- Guide for the city day
This is the shortest itinerary we suggest for Guyana. It gives you the country’s most famous sight and its capital, with a real backup for the Kaieteur flight.
Why it is built around a weekend
Air Services Limited publishes its scheduled Kaieteur tour on Saturdays and Sundays (checked 9 October 2026). Flying on Saturday leaves Sunday as a genuine backup: if weather or passenger numbers stop the Saturday flight, you can take the Sunday one and still have time in the city. If Saturday runs as planned, Sunday is your city day.
Kaieteur is not planned for your departure day. The tour returns to Ogle, east of Georgetown, around 17:00, and the international airport is about an hour’s drive south of the city, so it cannot be relied on to connect with a flight home the same evening.
If your dates do not include a weekend
A charter can fly any day, priced per aircraft, which is reasonable for a group of four or more. A backup then needs one more flexible day. We quote both options and explain the difference.
Options to tailor it
- Add Orinduik Falls by charter on the Kaieteur day for a longer flight and a swim (quoted for your date).
- Swap the city day for an Essequibo River trip if you prefer nature to architecture.
- Add a morning on the Mahaica River for the hoatzin, if your flight home leaves late enough on day 4.
- Extend to the interior with two or three extra days: see rainforest and savannah in 7 days.
Costs and confirmation
Costs depend on your hotel, whether Kaieteur is a scheduled tour or a charter, and guiding. The published price of the scheduled Kaieteur tour is shown on our Kaieteur flights page, and our trip cost guide explains the rest. Flight days, times and prices are reconfirmed for your dates, and your proposal gives a total price with inclusions and exclusions.
Questions travelers ask
Can I do this itinerary midweek?
Yes, but Kaieteur then needs a charter, priced per aircraft, and a backup would need another flexible day. For one or two travelers, a stay that includes a weekend is far better value.
Could I add a night in the interior?
With two or three extra days, a stay at a rainforest or savannah lodge becomes possible. See the 7-day rainforest and savannah itinerary for how that extends.
