In short

Guyana is not a budget destination once you leave the coast. Interior travel relies on small aircraft, full-board lodges and private guiding, so a guided multi-day trip typically costs several hundred US dollars per person per day. Group size and how you travel between regions make the biggest difference.

Guyana surprises many travelers on price. The coast can be visited fairly economically, but the interior, where the waterfalls, rainforest and wildlife are, depends on logistics that are expensive to provide. Understanding what drives the price helps you decide where to spend and where to save.

What makes up the cost

Component Why it matters How to manage it
Domestic flights Small aircraft, few seats, fuel-intensive Use scheduled flights where possible; share charters
Road and river transfers Private vehicles and boats over long distances Combine with flights to reduce dead time
Interior lodges Remote, small, usually full board with activities Fewer moves, longer stays
Guiding Essential for wildlife, forest and safety Shared lodge guides vs. a private or specialist guide
Georgetown hotels City prices, wide range Choose by location and quality of sleep before flights
Season and dates Peak periods fill and some prices rise Flexible dates widen the options

Reference points

We only publish prices we can source and date. The clearest public reference is the scheduled Kaieteur Falls tour, listed in the facts panel on this page with its source. Interior lodges usually price per person per night on a full-board basis with some activities included, and published rates change by season and year, so we quote them for your dates rather than publishing figures that may be out of date.

As a broad guide, once domestic flights, full-board lodges, guiding and transfers are included, guided multi-day trips in Guyana’s interior generally cost several hundred US dollars per person per day. Groups sharing transport sit at the lower end; private charters and specialist guides sit higher.

What your proposal includes

Every proposal sets out:

  • The itinerary, day by day, with each lodge, flight, transfer and activity.
  • One total price, the currency and whether it is per person or per group.
  • What is included and what is not (international flights, insurance, tips and drinks are typical exclusions).
  • How you pay: the prepayment to Guyana Journey that secures the booking, and the balance you pay the operator directly in Guyana.
  • Cancellation terms: if you cancel your booking, your prepayment is refunded.
  • Which local operator delivers your trip, and who to contact during it.

Prices in a proposal are confirmed for a stated period. Nothing is booked until you accept and pay the prepayment.

Where to save, where not to

  • Save with flexible dates, scheduled flights instead of charters and fewer bases.
  • Do not cut buffer days, guiding quality or the final Georgetown night before your flight home. Those are what make the trip work.

Questions travelers ask

Why are interior trips expensive?

Everything in the interior has to arrive by small plane, boat or long road journeys; lodges are small and remote; and most activities need a guide and fuel for boats or vehicles. Those costs are real and shared across very few guests.

Is it cheaper for groups?

Often, yes. Charter flights, private vehicles and boats are priced per trip, so the cost per person falls as the group grows. Lodge rates are usually per person and change less.

Do you charge a planning fee?

No. Planning and your first proposal are free. You pay only when you book, and the proposal shows exactly what the total price covers.
